Chanya Button
Introduction
Chanya made her start in the industry whilst still in
education, working as an Assistant Director on the floor of the HARRY POTTER
feature film franchise and at 18, won a place on the Royal Court’s Young
Writers Programme before going on to study English at Oxford, and an MA in
Theatre Directing at RADA. Chanya has since worked extensively across both the theatre and film industries, blending writing and directing her own work with working on prestigious larger scale projects. She has worked at the Creative Department at Warner Brothers in LA, for the UK Film Council (now BFI) Film Fund, as an Assistant Director for the Bush Theatre, the Tricycle Theatre, in Development for Heyday Films, as well as continuing her work on Studio features including the HARRY POTTER franchise, SHERLOCK HOLMES and EDGE OF TOMORROW. Chanya’s debut feature film BURN BURN BURN had its world premiere at BFI London Film Festival in 2015 and US premier at Seattle. Represented by Paris-based sales agent UDI for international sales it has since gone on to win a number of prestigious awards including the Grand Prix at Odessa. UK release was October 2016 and it was released on Netflix at the end of 2016.
VITA AND VIRGINIA, Chanya's 2nd feature starring Gemma Arterton and Elizabeth Debicki, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2018.
