Dan Cleland began his career in entertainment television on shows like Pop Idol, Changing Rooms and Strictly Come Dancing. In 2005 he moved into advertising working at Ridley Scott Associates, Radical Media, AKQA and others, producing campaigns for clients such as Jaguar Land Rover, Coca Cola, Volkswagen, Kleenex, Toblerone, Vodafone and many more. In 2014 he produced the Band Aid 30 music video featuring Bono, Chris Martin, Angelique Kidjo, One Direction, Sinead O’Connor etc. He has worked on shoots across the UK & internationally in France, Italy, Spain, Hungary, South Africa, Rwanda, Malawi, Brazil, Barbados, India, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Australia. Over the past decade Dan has moved into long-form work, producing narrative and documentary feature films through his company, Lions Den Films: Orthodox (2015), Are You Proud (2019) and Body of Water (2020). Are you Proud was listed by The Guardian as one of the top 10 documentaries of the year and longlisted for the BIFA Breakthrough Producer Award. Body of Water was also longlisted for three BIFA awards in 2020: Best Debut Screenwriter, Best Newcomer and the Raindance Discovery Award. In 2014 Dan was selected for the Edinburgh International Film Festival Talent Network. In 2017 he was invited to join the BFI’s Bafta Crew, an exclusive network of emerging production professionals. In 2018 Dan was invited to participate in Sheffield International Documentary Festival’s Future Producer School, and that same year he was selected to attend Rotterdam International Film Festival’s Cinemart: Co-Production Forum with Dean Loxton’s feature debut, The Ride, currently in development with the BFI. In 2020 Dan worked on Two Brothers Productions second series of Baptiste as part of the Screen Skills Co-Producer program to support new producers in high-end TV production.
