The story of a forgotten propaganda film made by the Nazis about the sinking of the Titanic is remebered tomorrow night on Channel 5 at 8pm.
The propaganda film made at the height of World War II, was conceived as the ultimate propaganda movie with the famous disaster recast as a story of Allied weakness and German courage. At the time it was one of the most expensive and ambitious movies ever filmed.
The film has always been shrouded in mystery with the director being arrested and thrown in jail where he was later found dead, the ship the Nazis filmed on being sunk and military personnel moved from the front lines to join the cast and crew as actors and extras.
