THE SECRET HISTORY OF OUR STREETS – MICHAEL HARROWES – EDITOR

By June 27, 2012Uncategorised

Tomorrow evening sees the next episode of Our Secret Streets being transmitted on BBC2 at 9pm. Michael Harrowes was the editor.

In the 19th C. Portland Road, on the edge of Notting Hill, was part of one of the worst slums in London. A hundred years on and it has transformed beyond all recognition. Full of luzurious dwellings for wealthy bankers and some of the cities richest people. However just yards away where once stood overcrowded slums, has now been replaced by council flats.

Its mixture of social housing and stucco mansions on the same street and the spread of wealth from the top to the bottom of the scale is unique even to London.

The Personal stories tell the tale of one of the most diverse streets in Britian.

Catch it Wednesday 27th June on BBC2 9pm
